stinkyclimber Posted January 3, 2016 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Thanks for the latest intel. With the forecast - low FLs - i suspect it it will be good to go in 2 weeks. The challenge is always guessing how good the ice is in the middle - the winds there, esp at the corner of Sphinx Bay, are high, keeping the ice thinner. Such a joy to hit scary-thin ice under powder halfway across. There are lots of soggy boots and even swimming stories, so definitely don't fuck around too much with this. JasonG Posted January 3, 2016 Author Share Posted January 3, 2016 Yeah, last time we were in there there were large sections of rotten ice (water at the surface) which made the ski across a bit more exciting than I would have liked. A few days ago, we cut holes with our ice axes- the ice varied from 2-4 inches thick within a few hundred yards of shore. From Panorama ridge, it looked much thinner near the Burton Hut and Sphinx Bay, though the whole lake was frozen. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I suspect that the inversion did a number on it the past couple days though. FL was supposed to hit 2700m! We missed you!! Skiing better in AK now?
