Declared 2016 Republican Presidential Candidate

Eric Cavanagh

American Progressive

Eric Scott Cavanagh

Born: unknown

[Eric Cavanagh for President]

Eric Scott Cavanagh is silent on personal information such as his academic credentials and employment history. This may be because he prefers to focus fully on his presidential bid, about which he is passionate. He pleads with the American public to end the “oppressive nightmare” of the Obama administration, and implies that President Obama wishes to destroy the United States. In explicitly begging for support, he cautions that if people do not vote for him, “there won't be anyone left to vote!”

In addition to a verse from the book of Philippians, Cavanagh includes on his official campaign site a quote from the Holy Quran, and he makes reference to “The Great Prophet Mohammed”, although he is not explicit about his religious faith.

Cavanagh identifies as a Republican “American Progressive” candidate; politically, he tends towards policies that are left of center. He wishes to institute a pension plan for all Americans, paid for by the US government. He opposes any and all tort limits on medical malpractice lawsuits. And critically, he supports “Hillarycare”, the healthcare reform proposal backed by Hillary Clinton, and which has been widely criticized by Republicans for its similarity to Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”). He also favors a 5% “Straight Federal Tax”, however, to replace and eliminate all state income taxes, which would likely result in a substantial overall reduction of taxes – this could be seen as a conservative position. Additionally, in a move with strong potential appeal to the religious right, he supports a 100% tax on all forms of pornography.

Some of Cavanagh's more novel ideas include instructing police officers to credit drivers with “negative tickets” for responsible driving, elimination of “Most Favored Nation” status, and the establishment of a tax-free zone in Delaware and Detroit, Michigan to draw businesses. Cavanagh wishes to eliminate the electoral college through a Constitutional amendment, abolish all liquor and inheritance taxes, and restructure the military so that the Air Force and Marine Corp are absorbed in the Army and Navy, respectively, leaving only two branches (the Coast Guard, he says, should also be joined into the Navy). He also proposes the decidedly radical idea of “mandatory expungement”: Anyone convicted of a felony will have their record cleared in 6 months, 3 months for a misdemeanor conviction, with arrest records similarly wiped.

With a generally left-leaning platform that nevertheless veers into hardcore conservative territory on a few issues, Cavanagh may experience difficulty finding his political niche. The Republican party with which he has chosen to align himself may appreciate his intentions towards tax eliminations, and some would applaud his rigid anti-pornography stance, but it is those same issues that risk offending the left-of-center voters who may approve of most of his ideas.

if i was a betting man, I would put it on either Walker or Kasich.

Kasich could come out from the bloody battles as the only one without a despicable past (lehman excluded) and somewhat right center to be a contender. I think Walker may have too much dirt on him.

I disagree with much of what Bernie has to say and holds as positions, but he is right about one thing: we are run by two oligarchies and those oligarchies pick the candidates that run. The primary process is a farce.

Don't let them tell you otherwise.

Bernie has an opinion on this topic and he is not a woman either...

As for Bernie the Socialist, yes, go Bernie, please, GO. Away. far fucking away.

Yeah, he has an opinion, that it should be up to a woman to decide. Yes- don't want babies? Why don't we start a program of mandatory vasectomies for males? After all, they can be reversed, but that way people would not be spawning as much.

if trump could do it, bernie could do it and wouldn't that be a horse-race? :)

Gee, what a choice we might have:

Bernie or Trump

Trump or Hillary

Hillary or Jeb

We are fucking lost.

And of the four, Bernie is the only one that would be any different than anything else.

Which is why he will never get the nomination, and why I still give no shits about the whole stupid pointless thing.

Dang - what is it? Are these guys so deep into the corporate pockets that they only voters they can now attract have to throw them this crap of red meat?

I noticed that Jeb, who used to be considered a moderate - has decided he needs to run with the pack and has abandoned his support for Common Core and now agrees we need to change the Constitution to remove in-country birthright citizenship.

Really. You couldn't make this stuff up. I'm out of popcorn already and it's a year before the GOP convention.

So are you putting your money on Bernie? Who are you picking for the R nomination?

Nope, not Bernie. His talk scares the powers that be and his policies will scare off the plentiful votes of middle America. That and he has integrity. A bad combo for the powers that be. Figure Biden will announce he's running, run and then win. He's smart, experienced and acceptable to lots of folks that Bernie will put off.

For R's, could be anyone of the other 12-15 running, but it won't be Trump despite his big lead in the polls, I'd lay money on that. Sad to say it, but it's likely Bush as the R candidate. He's been quietly working on building the kind of machine that wins these elections. Both Bush and Kash (sic) have worked for Lehmen Bros, so they'd be acceptable to the 1 percenters.

Is there anyone else put off by the idea that the supposed front runners are either the brother and son of or the wife of a former president? I know this is all a bit polyannaish on my part but could we at least try and pretend there's some sort of meritocracy in politics and not just dynastic power and connections? While I'm basically a diehard liberal if it comes down to a Bush/Clinton vote I may just abstain.

*Political meritocracy being something like a politicians policy views and character being what attracts votes rather than inside political connections and big money. Like I said Polyanna.
