WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

Your climbing super hero.

Who is it? Honestly for me it has changed. Over time and as you learn what climbing is or can be. Who is it for you?

IVAN Psyche. Peter Croft! Da Man, Alex Honnold sure gets it done, too. He's setting a mark that's gonna be hard to top. But he's far too young to fall into "my hero" category. Heroes can only be inspired in your youth. For me, anyway... After youthful delusions of grandeur, everyone is is just human.

More generally though, the most impressive climbers to me are old school climbers who pushed into the unknown with comparatively primitive gear and limited support. The Uli Steck speed climber types, with the lightest, tightest gear and the ability to devote so much time for training... meh. They aren't even in the same league.

Local hardmen with real jobs who go out and crush in their free time and post TRs here and then go back to work on Monday. Guys I don't know like Wayne Wallace and some I used to know like Tom Sjolseth and guys like DPS and Pat who let smaller fish like me tag along from time to time. Fuck all those other guys who write books about how famous they are, fuck them right in their ears.

Indeed...

In particular this type of climber....

"local hardmen (women) with real jobs who go out and crush in their free time and post TRs here and then go back to work on Monday."

I got to climb for a year with my hero and it was awesome!!!

RIP Chris.
