coug4
Can anyone give us an idea on how many people (or parties of people) we could expect at the base camp for the easton route on Mt. Baker?
DPS
It depends on the weather, if its a weekend, if the clubs (Mountaineers, WAC, Boealps, etc) or guide outfits have courses or climbs planned. You can pretty much be assured you won't be the only party at the party. If you want to avoid a circus, the Boulder Glacier route will probably have fewer parties, and is a cool route. genepires
there are two non glacier moraine base camps. I assume you are asking about these. If you base out of the glacier, you will have isolation while camping out. But then you wouldn't be near the toilets which is nice. taking a dump and looking at the twin sisters! The guide outfits do most of their classes midweek. there may be a 3 day summit trip there but those are not as common. If there are other people, it will be regular climbing citizens. The lower moraine camp (not in trees) can hold lots of people and this is where the circus would be. the upper camp can something like 6 tents unless you want to chop a level platform in the snow. There are a couple tent spots before you get to the moraine but they are to close to the parking area to be a decent base camp. Another option is to go beyond the moraine camps and climb up the glacier for a couple hours and camp out on some level ground. Makes your summit day shorter, relatively isolated and a cool experience overall.
kurthicks
and the toilets are no more up there (no funding). take blue bags. Camping across the Easton, under the Squak, is a nice option. so is the route.
jordansahls
Why not go somewhere away from the crowds? The Boulder/Park cleaver is an excellent route that sees a fraction of the traffic. I expect with the closure of Glacier creek road the Easton route is going to be very packed from here on out.
coug4
I was actually having fun with this. I am looking for a guess. 4th of July weekend on one of the busiest routes in the cascades. How many people/tents at the base camp?
mountainsandsound
How many people/tents at the base camp? How many dumps deposited in postholes around camp and on route? Too many folks feel entitled to leave their shit on the mountain.
