Ascent of a Spiracle found in The Columbia River Gorge.

 

Spiracle (also pipe vesicles and vesicle cylinders) rise from the bottoms ... where the relations of individual flows to vents are generally obvious from their .... Columnar joints are typical of tube fillings even though the rock surround- .... the spiracle but is continually pushed back by the rising column of steam.
