Trip: Week of the Snowpocolypse -

Date: 12/24/2012

Trip Report:

The Powder maker was in full effect in Coastal BC this week. I even found myself riding lifts on the Northshore. 30cms of blower at Cypress was awesome felt like Cat skiing. The snow pack is growing pretty large with almost 250cms in most spots even the local early morning spots are good to go!

Mid week I hit the Duffey Pat. The snow was hammering all the way from Vancouver to Pemberton. 20cms was forecasted but we got more like 40cms.

The bigger than expected storm produced these atypical conditions

Stability was good on low angle slopes but we heard some big avi's running on some big terrain in the drainage.

Sunday was a quick trip to the Coquihalla to scout a new area. The sun came out and I was able to find a fun little chute.

Running now 7 days straight of making turns and the streak looks to be intact for the next few days!

this has more to do with climbing than most of the stuff posted on this site

Some damn fine skiers that post on this site that are also damn fine climbers.

In fact Triple Couloirs on Dragontail shown in the middle of the first two pictures of kevino's recent Colchuck conditions post has been reported on here both climbing and skiing.

I like reading your posts, but since they seem to be solely about skiing, wouldn't they be better posted to turns all year or TGR?

A skier and user of TAY ask me why CC had a skiing forum a couple years back. Skiing is part of mountaineering. The 10th Mountain division got their start at Paradise and learning how to ski was part of training.

Both sites provide information on skiing, and this TR is on TAY too.

There clearly needs to have some rules set.

What are the exact boundaries of the Cascades?

Posts from Cascade climbers climbing outside the Cascades.

Posts from non-Cascade climbers climbing in the Cascades.

Posts from ex-Cascade climbers living elsewhere.

What constitnutes issues appropriate to a climbing website?

The free flowing internet gets complicated if we think about it too much.

I enjoyed this thread because I live in Bozeman where we just got a big pow dump, used to live in Washington and skiid all over Washington and BC. and have done climbing TRs about WA MT and CO. Don't box me in.
