Bunkin
I'm currently making a transition from sport climbing to trad climbing. There is one thing that I have been trying to figure out though. When placing active or passive pro, should I attach slings to the end of these? Or just clip directly into the pro. I know that if there is a potential for the pro to move then I should attach a sling to mediate. Thanks in advance!
Pete_H
As a rule of thumb you should attach slings so you get less rope drag and so the piece doesn't move. If its a splitter crack and a solid placement you can sometimes skip a sling. Always add a sling with passive pro though.
Ed_Hobbick
I agree with what pete said. It's about minimizing rope drag for one thing. And it's also about adding a sling so as to not pull out your protection as you climb above it. This will become very obvious in a very short period of time as you climb upwards and toward the actual objective.
