wow muffy, it looks like we agree on something, a winged pig just flew by my window! Well, the fuel usage deal anyway..

. as for snoozers, i think the usual suspects defending the usual socialism (we care and we know better) the same old way (when we do it it'll work, because we're smart) is about as snoozy as it gets! [Wink]

Ya see Trask has conservative political views, and mine tend to be liberal yet we can both share common ground. [big Grin]

"Or how about this (I agree with chuck BTW) - we go with the flat and no deductions, and EVEN apply it to corporations?"

Because since corporations contain individuals, that results in double taxation, once when the money comes in the door and again when it is disbursed to those who own the corporation.

Now double taxation of the same resources may be OK by some, but it's not to me, so I'll oppose it, and do oppose it because it already happens.

Corporations are treated as individuals because they are composed of individuals, and you do not lose your right to free speech, free enterprise, or self ownership when you go to work or own a piece of a corporation.

Sorry mtngoat, but I gotta call BS on the "double taxation" argument when it is used to suggest that each dollar that flows through the economy can only be taxed once - that is a preposturously impossible standard and that term is only used to incite anti-tax sentiment (not that there is anything wrong with that-just get a valid argument). My one example, and doesn't take much to think of many more, when I make a buck, it is taxed as income, and again when it used to purchase (sales tax) and again by the person who sold me, and on down the line. Money is taxed double, triple, and an infinite number of times as it passes from hand to another. The argument that corporations cannot be taxed like individuals because it would be double taxation is really weak.

How about this though - require corporations to pay ALL taxes, and indivudals don't have to so we can avoid double taxation? [laf]

Don't know where you got on the free speech issue, it's not mine. I do believe, as others have posted, that if corporations are going to be treated as individuals, they should get treated as one, and if it means throwing the collective of corporate indivuals in the joint for crimes an ordinary "non-corporate" indivudal would do time for, so be it. The corporate shield should not be allowed to protect individuals from responsibility for crimes.

Sorry for missing another good Muir on Saturday thread, but after all, it snowed. [big Grin]

All I'm really hearing here is "I don't want to pay taxes". Well, I don't want to either, nor do I want to have to take the garbage out, change the oil on my car, pay bills, and a lot of other necessary tasks in life. Sorry!

How about some solutions?

I wish I had some I could throw out there, but I don't.

I don't realy mind paying taxes. What I mind is paying more of my (our) income than I can afford to taxes, and then that money being spent by the government in unwise ways. I think the government should have to shop the sale racks and clip cupons just like I do. I take the time to spend my money as wisely as possible it would please me if the government paid my hard earned cash that kind of respect as well. Taxes are not a never ending supply of funds. How much people have to pay in taxes effect their quality of life.

Exactly! If you didn't vote in the last election, you can't bitch about anything the government does, you have to give back your American flags, and you have to have "JERK" tattooed on your forehead. Whaddya say we suggest it to Tim Eyeman for his next initiative? Its at least as constitutional as most of what he floats out there...

Well, yeah Poseur, that makes sense, I get taxed on my income, then I give it to corporations via retail purchases, and it gets taxed several more times. What a racket! Tax the power, not the people. [laf]
