I'm planning to hike in and check it out next week sometime if my partner is up for it. OlympicMtnBoy Posted December 22, 2011 Share Posted December 22, 2011 My guess is that picture is just from the ice climbing up there and not the long snow/ice route listed in the book. There is some decent ice that forms up there near the lake most years for some ok single pitch cragging (except for the long approach and short days when its in). I think that picture you linked to is of someone on the ice flow to the far right of this pic from the same person: Â I've never heard of someone climbing the 1200 ft. line recently but it shouldn't be hard to climb something up to the ridge, lots of options. I would guess most people humping ice gear up there go for the shorter but harder ice flows instead of steep snow. Also might be pretty dry this year so maybe not enough snow right now? cdmike112 Posted December 24, 2011 Share Posted December 24, 2011 Hiked up to Lake Angeles today, there are several ice climbs that are in and overall in pretty good condition. I climbed a 100ft section of WI3 and continued up the drainage to the ridge line. There looks like there are several mixed lines to also be had. cdmike112 Posted December 29, 2011 Share Posted December 29, 2011 Yes it is possible to set up a top rope on the flow to the far right, it is probably easier to lead the climb and then set an anchor, there are several bomber trees to do so.
