Gregory.S.
Getting ready to start looking for one. I have mostly used BD raven pro but want something a little different for some of the steeper stuff I plan to do on shuksan, baker, and rainier. Any experiences with the venom? keenwesh
for alpine stuff (snice, steep snow) they're great, being able to plunge so easy is a huge bonus. On pure ice they suck though. For what you're talking about on those mountains they are exactly what you want. I have a set I might think about selling you, but probably not. I want them for when I do lib ridge or need a self arrest tool.
Dan_Miller
I've had great success with mine for exactly what you seem to be interested in. A good general alpinism tool. Â 17oz for the 57cm length. Keep your eyes open for BD sales. Â Keenwesh's comments above, are spot on to my way of thinking.

BootsandPants
The Sum'Tec, Petzl's version of the Venom, is also a great axe. Keep an eye out for them on sale too.
denalidevo
Another thumbs up for the Sum'Tec! Swings well and the adjustable pinky rest is cool.
