JessicaP Posted August 2, 2011 Share Posted August 2, 2011 I was hoping to climb South Sister under the light of the full moon Aug 13, 2011. Hit the trail at midnight, summit by dawn. Last week the ranger station told me there was still 3 to 10ft of snow, trail markers would be buried, suncupping the size of cars. I've never climbed it (or any mountain for that matter). hippos_are_evil Posted August 23, 2011 Share Posted August 23, 2011 I went up last Saturday (20th) and the trail is 99% snow free, just a few sections of walking over snow, nothing steep. The lake in the crater is still covered in snow, as is most of the crater itself, but the ridge is all snow free. One of the campsites/windbreaks is clear of snow on the ridge.
