Trip: Chair Peak - NE Buttress

Date: 2/2/2011

Trip Report:

Went up and climbed Chair Peak yesterday with Brandonmc. The route was in descent shape with some manky ice on the first pitch, but good snow conditions and climbable ice at the step 2/3 up the route. I imagine that conditions were declining today because during most of the climb it was above freezing. Two other parties were on route and everyone summited. Thanks to the party before us who kicked all the steps through the snow sections. Didn't look like any one had been up there since the last snowfall or so. All in all a good way to spend a Wednesday with a good partner. Now for a few pictures.

Gear Notes:

Ice screws, pickets, One "mental" KB on the first pitch, and slings for trees.

Approach Notes:

Approach: Trail was packed hard all the way to the notch.

Descent: Down climb the gully on the northeast side of the false summit to the southeast to a rappel anchor at a saddle. Rappel off pins to the northeast two raps with the first about 35 meters long, and the second depositing you on a comfy snow field with good glisading.
