With that,I think at this point Icegirl's thread-starting question has been answered. No, there is no role of moderators. IT'S ANARCHY!Are we off topic yet? rolleyes.gif" border="0

Perhaps over coffee somewhere? PM me if interested.

This response is so fucking lame it cannot possibly be anything else but a troll. OK DLunkman, let us know if you get laid or not. I'm sure Allison is already hooked up (seeing as how 99% of all climbing gals are) but maybe if you buy her something really expensive and totally pander yourself to her, you might get a hug.

Now I wonder if the Mt Spears thread is an offender. Yes the thread could be viewed as degrading to woman, however is this our fault or Mrs. B's. In my oppinion Mrs. B is a smart busness woman who uses her body to make money. She's pandering to base instincts, so is it surprising when some guy expresses those base instincts.

Don't get me going about Britney.[/QB]

I missed that one, because I'm guessing, it's in 'Spray.' Where I rarely go.

I'd personally rather have people put some thought and restaint when they are going to post instead of myself, Tim, or any of the very few people who have volunteered to moderate step in/babysit.

Having an atmosphere where people can speak their mind is great, and many comment that's why they like this board over others, but people too many times push the limit of what is really acceptable and shouldn't be surprised when their post disappears or they lose their posting rights. These people are talking advantage of the medium, would you seriously post some of that shit if everyone could see you and know who you are?

Some claim it's their right to post whatever they want, but they're wrong, the way I see it is it's everybodies right to utilize the site and if there is material that people consider offending they have a right to say something about it. One person says most climbers are male, which may be true, so deal with it. Well most climbers are white as well, so should we just starting throwing around racial slurs like it's no big deal.

I don't like having to spend my time moving and deleting threads, deleting posts, and dealing with users who are either out of control or upset with the level of the content. The reality as more users sign on and the number of posts increases, it becomes increasingly hard for the few moderators. What that means is either people need to think before they post or we need more people to stick their neck out and help moderate. It's pretty obvious what the answer to that is.

Right on Jon. I think your tone is absolutely correct -- the crude and childish banter, followed with whining about same, and then cries for "where are the moderators," makes all of this sound like gradeschool. (I am not referring specifically to the most recent threads -- this pattern has repeated itself over and over again on this board.)

From my perspective, it HAS helped for you to pull a couple of threads, however. Sure, some of the sprayers whined about censorship, but I think they also have been forced to recognize that there are some limits and at least in some small measure I think the obnoxiousness has eased slightly over what it was, say, six months ago. If the demise of "Caveman" was an editorial decision, I would think it appropriate for that to be publicized -- for the same reason.

Maybe we need a set of rules. See Rules of Spray (ROS) 1.1 (Don't be a jerk); but see ROS 1.2 (some of that shit is FUNNY).

As I said before, I started out anonymous and shielded behind my avatar. I've been around long enough now that I'd like to do a pub club or something with you guys but I'm afraid I'll be taken out back and either killed or raped...depending on the assailant.

So starting Monday, trask will not necessarily quit spraying, but instead will try to be less caustic and gross. You see, I have only One (1) avatar and don't hide behind multiple ones so that no one can put a face to the avatar. I think that's chicken shit. If you want to say something, let everyone know who you are. That makes you pretty accountable for the shit you say.

That's all.

P.S. For any smart guy that may flame me for saying this, I say, "Up Yours". smile.gif" border="0

So Trask, is your real name Trask? Are you not held to this rule because you never say anything anyway? confused.gif" border="0

I'm not stupid. This is the internet. I won't post my real name, but "trask" is the avatar I've always used, and will continue to be the one and only. I don't become..."billy bob numb nuts" or "cheetah" or some shit for one post (to flame someone) then return back to trask.

Forget I even mentioned this shit. I don't care anymore. trask is trask...that's the way it is sucka. [Moon]

P.S. I'm not trying to imply that people that use their real names like Ralph, Ed, Trixie, whatever are stupid for doing so. I don't, and wouldn't; a personal, private choice.

Hey Trask or whoever you are, Are you calling me, Roger, Mattp, imorris, dlunkman, Allison, Dru, erik, jon and gregm stupid? [Moon][Moon][Moon]

What's so stupid about using your real name? Allison and others might be embarassed to show other people this site. But at least the people using their real names aren't embarassed by what they have contributed.

I have no opinion about you at all chuck. If you want to use your name, go for it. I don't. I also try not to divulge info. such as DL, SS#, Phone #, etc... I just try to keep my business private. I don't buy shit online or use credit cards either. I've been ripped off with an atm card before. All I'm saying is I picked trask as an avatar and have stuck with it through thick and thin. I've said some real flamatory shit here, and haven't hid behind another avatar to do it, so as not to besmirch "trask". (that make sense?)

Chuck, I know you don't like me, and that's fine. I've explained (in detail, I might add) my feelings on this. I'm done explaining. Have a great Saturday.

I'm going to say a few words and then get off. I go to this site mainly for information, and I'm also entertained (sometimes) by the banter and conversations I find here. But it's gotten to the point where I can't log on when my kids are around (yes, some of us are married and have families and still care seriously about the smaller number of climbing opportunities we still have), because the obscene statements and icons have degraded this page almost to the level of a porn site. My kids' eyes are immediately attracted to the colorful icons, and while most of which are harmless, I don't care to explain to my kids what the nastier ones are about, and I'm not keen on them thinking I get off on this kind of humor--it's funny for half a second, and then it leaves a lingering bad aftertaste. I would bet that I could get along with most of you in a pub club setting, because I would bet that people would self censor their questionable remarks before broadcasting something really tasteless to the whole world. I would caution all of usto be hyper-aware of the negative impact of virtual communication on the very important social rules that most of us live by. What is it about the Internet that makes people feel, just because these remarks start as words on a screen silently typed in, that the communication is not grossly public and enduring? Anything anyone says on this page they should also feel comfortable shouting over a public address system, addressing a crowd that includes their mothers, sisters, bosses, kids, etc. If you think your remarks are somehow shielded from the world, you could not be more wrong. If you don't think your remarks are shielded from the world, and you don't care, I ask you: why do you let a computer erase your social judgment? You would not talk this way in public.

My guess is that by far, this site is male-dominant. And I'd venture to guess that, due to the large number of icons inferring alcohol use, many of these men have substance abuse issues. And obviously, if you are an angry drunk, your ability to maintain a positive relationship with a life-partner is minimal. Not to mention the time spent angrily pecking away bilious posts that might otherwise be spent doing constructive things, like getting a life and a relationship with a real human being. These things considered, is it too much to ask that we at least keep the non-spray areas of the site relatively free from obnoxious, obscenity-laced tirades (i.e. rayb, above)? I don't want to be too P.C., but I'm with allison on this one. And I don't even know her. Here come the flames.... grin.gif" border="0

So in the world according to Biff, if I use [big Drink] it equates to substance abuse. I wonder what he thinks this one equates to [Moon] Biff, you should do your free writing on Word and paste it here when you've had a chance to think it over more.

Norman, have you ever driven a car on the freeway and noticed all of the aggressive drivers out there? These aren't all aggressive or mean people, but when you place them behind the wheel it's the darndest thing - these usually nice caring people will cut you off and give you the finger! shocked.gif" border="0 It's the same thing here - welcome to the world! Welcome to society!

For all of you whiners on this board, is it too hard to scroll past posts from authors you don't want to read? I scroll past almost all of W's posts because they are usually 1000 word liberal diatribes. If that is too hard to do, there is another site PBS styled climbers site that I think you would enjoy much more. cool.gif" border="0

VB-Sure I've had some long posts, and I don't care if you don't read them, I don't expect everyone to be interested...just don't call me a liberal if you simply don't understand what I'm trying to say. Not that I really care, but you don't know me at all and the world isn't so black and white. I'm not sure how I got singled out here since I've never had any real discourse with you, but thanks for your opinion.

My apologies W - I meant to include the winky guy but overlooked it. I was simply trying to throw out an example. Perhaps I should have followed the advice I gave to Biff above!

How much did we have to pay to join this bb? You get what you pay for. This isn't a club. It's not even an organization. It's nothing but space where people who share ONE common interest unload. Accept the lower standard that inherently comes with a site such as this.

If you want someone to take on the administrative & logistical burden of establishing codes that regulate what is proper posting and then enforcing those codes, sorry but you need to go somewhere else. And you'll have to pay for it. The Wash Alpine Club has an email list that shares a lot of the same information, and the posts are censored, but you have to pay to join the club.

This extends to all aspects of our society. If you're worried about off-color language and content tainting a newspaper article, would you read the Seattle PI or The Stranger? Hmmm, coincidence? That's just how it works. The same can be said for meals -- do you pay $15 for a burger at the Metropolitan Grill or go to Dicks? The answer depends on what you're looking for: quality ingredients and high-priced management that ensures good service, or quick and dirty satisfaction of your immediate hunger needs.

I'm not saying the original request is absurd or anything, it's just not reasonable to expect that from the administrators of a site like this.
