grinter
We are simply "loving it to death". Our pursuit of wilderness inevitably leads to its destruction. My parents took a horsepacking trip in AZ a few years back and one of their favorite stories, is about their Native American guide. Every time they saw a rock cairn he had to dismount and scatter the the rocks. Apparently he felt they represented an evil spirit disturbing the natural order. I still like the occasional trail marker to let me know I'm not wandering off into Canada, but I'm one of those new school urban adventurists with no sense of the purity gained through true hardman epicness.
