DANA ARCFLEX - TERRAPLANE (M pack, L belt)

(My Torso Length 19.5 inches, My Waist Size 37.5 inches)

CAPACITY (cu. in.)/ (liter) 5800/95

WEIGHT (oz)/ WEIGHT (lb) 108.8/6.8

Pack Cover included

Pack is in new condition

Main features

•Carbon fiber stays to add stability, shift weight to your hips, and act as springs to absorb the vertical inertia of the pack. You can really feel the spring action when you walk.

•Rigid plastic frame sheet which prevents hard things from poking your back and, along with a single aluminum stay, helps contour the pack to your back. A cut out at the top of the sheet provides "HeadSpace", allowing you to tilt your head back a little further than some other packs.

•Stiff hip belt with ample padding, secured with hook-and-loop (e.g., Velcro), allowing fine adjustment of torso length and removal for use of top as a fanny pack. This was the stiffest hip belt in the store after the Gregory hip belts (which are made of carbon fiber).

•Contoured shoulder straps with ample adjustments. You have to adjust these correctly, and especially get the lengths right on the straps (you may have to take off the pack to check this) or one shoulder strap will press more than the other and the pack will lean over to one side and in general you'll lower the efficiency of the suspension system. But once you get the straps adjusted they're very comfortable.

•The Pack Cover matches pack size for a weather proof system.

•Lumbar pad and porous foam back pad (most packs in this price range have these features).

•Retractable bottom, which allows you to eliminate the sleeping bag compartment when carrying smaller loads, thus shifting the weight higher up and improving balance.

•Comes in 5 frame sizes, each appropriate for different torso sizes, and 5 hip belts, each appropriate for different hip sizes (I got a medium pack and large belt).

•Two external zippered pockets, which, being on the back of the pack instead of its sides, do not affect the pack's narrow profile and thus would not interfere with a cross-country skiing hand motion.

•Numerous straps and attachment points for skis, jackets, ice ax, gizmos, whatever. 2 open side "pockets" (really only about 2 inches deep) for keeping tent poles and similar items attached to the pack. Includes 2 sewn on straps for attaching a sleeping pad, which might even double as closures for the sleeping bag compartment should the compartment's hefty zipper fail.
