WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

Yosemite - Wide Tour

Recommended Posts

Tyree on The Ear, P18 of the Salathe Wall, perhaps the hardest 5.7+ in the valley:

Haha, that pitch was hard and teh suck. I faced in, rather than out, still sucked. Give the DNB a whirl, that first pitch might change your mind on what's the hardest 5.7.

what i wanna know is...are ya gonna wear your skirt? :grlaf:

have fun!

You don't call it a skirt.

The reason you don't call it a skirt is that if you do I will have to kilt you.

KILT. Not skirt.

And I will have fun. I am so amped now I want to jump in the car right now. Can't sleep.

Got a swami? Not kidding at all. Not having a bulky harness with gear loops and crap on the back, and being able to rotate your tie-in knot to the side can be very helpful in the squeezy stuff.

Just call in climbing. Your boss will understand.

Sorry boss, can't make it in this week as I am sick of work and got a real bad case of the Valley Fever!

With such good weather you should have no problem onsighting all of those on your to do list :grlaf:

I'll think up a good excuse for not getting them done.

I have a list of those too.

Logistics are going to be a problem.

We will not be getting into Camp 4 until late Thurs.

So we will have to wait until the morning to get registered.

So Friday I was planning on getting my partner ready for some friction slab climbing(Yosemite friction slab, which resembles a finished marble top table). He will need it on the 5.7 friction traverse on Snake Dike.

So I was planning on the Grack Center. That will be good since that is the parking lot we will be parking at to get on the trail to do Snake Dike. We are planning on being on the Trail at 3:00 am. Sat.

Maybe we can beat the rush on Snake Dike and not have to hike down in the dark.

I don't know how it missed the list? There are some boulder problems with wide cracks on the way up on the 3 class scramble up to the top.

I talked my climbing partner Rick into the trip by selling Snake Dike as the most classic route in the world. Kinda like a snake oil salesman.

I really hyped it up.

It really is a cool way to get up on Half Dome.

I have forgotten the pain of the hike from the last time up. Mostly I have forgotten now that the nostalgia has had time to ferment.

It does have the nickname of Snake Hike.

Looking forward to doing it faster and with a whole lot less gear.

If you like that frictiony stuff, Crest Jewel offers a comparable view from the other side of the valley, highly recommended. Kind of the anti-wide, the wide open...

OHHHHHH!!!

My list is toooooo long.

I will have to highjack Rick and tell him we are marooned and must stay until the list is done.

I have looked at Crest Jewel. It's a long hike too.

Arches/Crest jewel. This is the last pitch of CJ? Ujahn and I did campsite to campsite (ND Gully descent) in 8 hours. Rode bikes over to Arches base from N. Pines.
