All you have to do is find what works for you and stick with that.

I think we all agree with this.

 

For example:

Gingko does nothing for me.

Diamox does a little, but not enough to warrant its use.

Dex does more, but I'll still not be doing one day ascents of Rainier.

The only thing that does work for me is gradual adaptation to altitude. After spending 5 days in Ouray then 4 days in Telluride one winter, I was motoring around on Rainier the next weekend like it was flat ground. I wish I could afford to do that more often.

Certainly not trying to defend big Pharma. We could go on ad nauseum about their issues. My basic point is that the supplement/herbal remedy industry is not nearly as benign or well-meaning an industry as many would like to believe.

Suppose I agree with that, some supplements make exaggerated claims, especially the weight builder ones.

the best time I ever had on Rainier was when I spent 4 days at 7,000 to 9,500 before summiting. My buddies were doing it in two days and came up and met me at Sherman. I literally ran rings around them on summit day.
