mountainmatt
Just a heads up that the normal descent route down Dragontail has had some recent rock fall (08-16-09). Below is a picture taken just before and after a large VW sized rock came down the approximate descent path.

mountainmatt
Bid deal. Shit falls off of there all the time. You are absolutely right. Giant boulders are constantly rolling over the descent trail. Thanks for your amazing insight!
olyclimber
This is yet another example of how the earth can shift and move. another is the tectonic plates. beware of rifts in the earth that have a history of moving. cool pictures! I wonder if the larger boulder made it far before it broke to pieces.

penoyar
Great photos, Matt! My partner and I had set up the first rappel on our descent and were having a snack at the rap station when all that nonsense fell off just below us. Having never been on Dragontail before it was pretty unnerving to watch a 200m wide swath go tearing down the snowfield. Especially since it wasn't clear if the rap route went right through the carnage! Optimistic that the lower rap stations were intact we rapped away and had no issues. The biggest stone didn't seem to break up at all, just casually tumbling amidst the exploding snowfield. I wish we'd been quicker with the video; maybe next time?
