boots / bindings for large feet

Recommended Posts

I need help! I'm looking for a boot / binding combination that will work for my US size 15 feet (mondopoint 33), for ski mountaineering.

My climbing boots, as far as I can tell, are the only ones available in my size: Lowa Civetta GTX Extreme. I was looking at a binding that might work with these, like the Silvretta 404 or 500, but from what I can tell from searching on the net, neither of these will open far enough to accommodate my Civettas.

Disheartened, I resigned myself to carrying two pairs of boots (ski + climbing), and started to look for an AT boot / binding that would work for me, but I can't seem to find a single manufacturer that makes an AT boot larger than 30.5!

Am I totally out of luck here?

Scarpa Spirit sz 31 at MEC. Not sure but if you're lucky the inner boot size options may be 31 and 31.5...

edit: BTW, I wear sz 48 Scarpa mountaineering boots and was sized for a sz 29 AT boot during a boot fitting session. So maybe you can squeeze into a 31 and be comfortable after head molding.

I've got size 15's as well. I'm using Scarpa Matrix in Mondo 32. This is the older 3-buckle boot. They might make the Spirit (Matrix replacement) in 32, but I haven't checked.

I started on Dynafit bindings and switched to Fritschi Freerides. The large Fritschis will fit size 15 feet. I've noticed that the extra lateral leverage from a large boot can twist the binding in strange ways while side-hilling in tour mode. I will probably be switching back to Dynafit.
