We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

A few questions for you guys that know the area and conditions this time of year:

1) are there bugs up around cascade pass/boston basin camp sites in mid-June?

2) are rock pitons at all useful on the rock ridge routes in the area in early summer?

thanks for any info you can pass on! -Jim

June is unpredictable. They are expecting about a foot of fresh snow up there tonight. For current conditions, check this NPS site: NCNP current conditions website

For more info call the NCNP ranger station in Marblemount.

You should not need any rock pitons. Removable protection (nuts, cams, long slings) should suffice. Please do not hammer pitons into any of the classic routes up there. Thanks.

1) Bugs should not be so bad as to require DEET.

2) No pitons. Clean pro only. Small alpine rack.

3) It's skiing season up there right now... and probably into July.
