I need some boots as I threw away my hiking boots last summer (they had disintegrated). However, I do have some full-shanked nepal sportiva extreme "Tops" for ice climbing. Could I use a full-shank boot or would it be too difficult to shift? Could Chouinard shift in ice climbing boots? Serenity Posted June 7, 2008 Share Posted June 7, 2008 I ride motocross bikes for work, and I wear my La Sportiva Glaciers (Similar to Makalus). They work great. Fairweather Posted June 7, 2008 Share Posted June 7, 2008 As long as you can comfortably and reliably get your toe beneath the lever, you should be ok. But take a look at recent accident stats. Amazingly, they show folks who've taken rider safety certification actually have a higher accident/injury/fatality rate than non-participants. My guess is that this is because the training is on 250cc bikes. I wish the state would go back to a tiered/weight class system. Be careful--riding is a lot more dangerous than climbing.
