I've never been down there but I'm thinking of doing it with a friend sometime in February if the weather/avalanche conditions are appropriate. Anybody have any advice on this, or where to find good avalanche info on that region? warrior1515 Posted February 9, 2008 Share Posted February 9, 2008 Hwy. 46 that takes you to the TH of SS is closed till the summer. That means you will tack on an additional 4-6 miles. If you were able to park at the TH you are looking at a 12mile round trip when doing the South Side. Avy danger is high right now. Yes it will slide up on SS. However, if you don't have a sled, you might be able to convince some slednecks to tow you to the Forest boundary line. Orygunkid Posted February 14, 2008 Share Posted February 14, 2008 hey i am looking to also climb the south sis as well but am waiting til later in the spring...i live here in oregon and with the record snow fall we've had this year don't think the roads are going to open up til late spring! not to mention the ava conditions pretty high!
