tvashtarkatena
Looking for a new wireless heart rate monitor. The only fancy feature I want is recorded duration of exercise at target heart rate, plus the standard target heart rate alarms. Otherwise, something cheap, reliable, water resistant, and a battery which is user changeable. Good ones? Ones to avoid?
RuMR
maybe one that rides in your man-boob bra?
tvashtarkatena
I don't think one that fits a pudgy midget would do, but thanks for your recommendation.

Also, you'll need to check to see if it can pick up a pulse through 6 inches of tubby torso fat...
high_on_rock
Wow, people are tough on you Tvash. I know I have tried the ones with the chest monitor and hate wearing the thing. I have tried the ones that merely wear like a wrist watch and do not need the chest strap, and they had no accuracy or reliability whatsoever. My next one will have the chest strap again. that is all the input I have, but at least it was nice and respectful which has to count for something. jon
In the past you have been able to pick up the Polar S150 at Performance Bike for $56. They will match any domestic online price. Has all the features you are looking for.

The wrist only HRMs are spot checks only, requiring a button press, no? Or are there models that continuously record (a feature I want) without the chest strap? high_on_rock
The wrist only ones that I tried (two different types) required holding a button to check. One moment I would come in at 90, moments later at 140, ... They were consistantly unreliable. They also only worked when I was sweating, which made it difficult for resting rates. Junk. tvashtarkatena
Yeah, I need to chest band, then. I want the thing to record how many minutes per workout I spend at or above a target heart rate. That includes swimming laps, so having to press buttons wouldn't be too convenient. Hugh Conway
From one souless knowitall shitbag piece of yuppie scum to another: You'll fall in love with a Suunto. Fortunately Suunto's include a chestband. Unlike every other brand where you have to buy it extra.
crmlla2007
2nd on Suunto - HR3 is nice, but if you go to a gym the machines won't pick up the belt signal, but it does record and upload to PC. Not sure about swimming though...
sk
my old boss had one that he could plug into his computer and down load info after his work out. it was pretty cool. recorded his heart rate, and the calories burned etc. I think it is a polar watch with the chest strap thinger. Hugh Conway
Not sure about swimming though... My X6 claims to be waterproof and usable in the pool. Based on prior experience using electric devices in the pool I would not expect it to standup to frequent use.

high_on_rock
I was just trolling ebay to price heart rate monitors, and I see these new "ring" monitors that are worn on the finger like a ring. Anyone know if they have any accuracy? Any experience?
