wannabe
Any considerations to take into account with anti-balling plates? I recently had an experience on a trip that leads me to think I should get some:
foraker
The guides in NZ used to make 'em out of 2 liter Coke bottles and duct tape.
mccallboater
I've had great luck with the orange plastic used on bottles of orange juice, with good thick electrician's black zip ties. That plastic seems to have a lower coefficient of friction than other plastic.

Mr_Phil
And if your crampons are balling up, take them off.
G-spotter
In general though, antibottes from another company don't work as welll as antibottes from the company that made your crampons. Just in case you were thinking of putting some Terminator antibottes on Switchblades or whatever.
dbconlin
Grivel makes the best anti-bots. Period.

johndavidjr
An aimless question: Frequently, going without crampons is the simplest answer, based on my own fairly limited experience, common sense and advise of elders..... The next simplest answer is obviously limited by plates made for whatever crampons you've got... which may be actual crux of your question..... Jury or gerry rigged substitutes--- I have no idea personally...Beeswax and aluminum foil ???? Poppy residue ??? ---------- Edited March 31, 2007 by johndavidjr
Farrgo
I've used the whole plastic carton with zip ties rig. It works better than nothing at all but much worse than the manufactured models.
mattp
In a pinch, a bit of duct tape works OK. It doesn't last very long, but it will get you down that sloppy warm down-climb before it turns to trash.
