Wakaranai Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Im dying to check out some of those classic crack lines. Does anyone know if Mid to late may is a good time to go? Seems like from what I read that it can get pretty hot in the summer time. Plan is to fly from B-ham to LALA land and then drive up. I know its a ways off yet but would like to make it a four pack to cut car rental costs if anyone is interested. Quote
goatboy Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 May should be a really good time to go there.... Quote
goatboy Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Hmm...I've only been there a few times (in the fall) but according to the Needles guidebook (by Moser, Vernon, Paul) the "ideal season" is May-October....sounds like you've been snowed in in May, though, Pink... Are the Southern Sierras having a big snow year this year? Quote
bigwallben Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I've spent a couple months climbing there...mostly in October. Thunderstorms in spring and late summer. Lightning can come out of nowhere while you are on route. Quote
pink Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 june is a safe bet. that's all. what a great place!!!!! Quote
Wakaranai Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 Thanks for the beta. I think we will wait till June for the snow to melt off. Thunderstorms can be really unpredictable in the Sierras. Last year we found that out on Russell with our hair standing straight up and our ears buzzing. I cant wait to finally check out the needles!
