Have a friend who went up on the weekend to do Joffre from Cerise Creek side. Apparently stuff was coming down in a few places. He was on a mountaineering course and wouldn't you know it, the one place they thought was safe was where they were roping up. It avalanched and 7 of them were caught in it. It came down because of rock fall triggering a slab about 100 feet above them. All managed to swim out and get to the surface, but 1 guy lost his complete rack and 5 pickets were lost. They didn't attempt Joffre or Matier after that. Go for it!

Searched for the booty but no luck (big rack). Our attempt on Joffre was thwarted just after 7:00am when it had to be close to 20-25 degrees and not a hint of a breeze. The S.E. snow face was sheding like a slurpee machine and a couple of big sluffs within five minutes of debating send us back for an afternoon of skiing. To any climbers heading up beware of the cornice hazard some biggies just waiting to be dispatched. Had a great day skiing (soft snow) and the cabin to ourselves.
