Newbie in Vancouver looking for climbing partners/mentors

I am a beginning mountaineer... I live in Vancouver, BC and am looking for partners and mentors for alpine climbing, mountaineering and backpacking.

Join the BCMC or ACC thats what they are for. Posting a note on a bulletin board saying you want a "mentor" just screams out "looking for a free guide."

Now that Dru mentions it...heh Stormwolf, if you'll hump my rack, my pack, my boombox and beer, I'll let you tag along with me and a couple pards this summer on a Ptarmigan Traverse slog, along with a jaunt up Johannesburg and Formidable. No charge; sign waiver.

well, the intention definitely is not to look for a free guide or free anything. i just want to get into mountaineering and hook up with more experienced people to tag along with and learn the ropes (pun unintended) with....thanks...i will look into the clubs mentioned.

The ACC is much more of a club, in my opinion, than the American Alpine Club. I think you would be well-served to join them and find an introductory course. I've taken advantage of the benefits of the ACC (huts, small organized trips) much more than my AAC membership, and I live in the states! Unfortunately, their guided trips, courses, and GMC's tend to be relatively expensive. Once you are comfortable guiding yourself, the organized trips are often a good deal and a great way to meet people at your level. Good luck.
