For all of the folks that have recently visited this site over the past week or so and have commended the hard work of PMR and its many volunteers, there is a way to help.

You can follow the link provided by Off White in the Mt. Hood SAR Reports thread to learn more about PMR.

Happy Holidays to All

Many people have expressed interest in SAR and how to contribute or get involved.

SAR and Mountain Rescue in particular have long histories and proud traditions. The teams you've seen in action are outstanding examples of the units that exist in many areas.

You may be surprised to find an MRA-qualified unit near you.

MRA Regions & Units

Contact your local team(s) to see how you can help. If you don't see a team in your area, contact the local Sheriff or emergency services agency and ask about SAR. MRA teams are only a piece of the much larger SAR world - both paid (military, law enforcement, AMR) and volunteer (MRA and non-MRA). As noted in a post below - lots of groups came together to in a coordinated and well orchestrated response.

Public support and dedicated volunteers keep these teams alive and ready when the call for help comes.

For those of who would like to help out with one of these organizations, but feel that they aren't strong enough climbers/skiers, or don't have the time to dedicate for all the training hours, can sign up as an associate. Associates are not field deployable. Talk to your local SAR org. and find out what you might be able to contribute in some way or another. I know that it takes a lot to run an organization and they can always use the help.

Don't sign up just so you can say that you are part of one of these organizations. Sign up to because you can and will contribute.

There were other groups out there during this search. The MRA groups did the most work, and should deserve props, but let's not forget the other players.

AMR RAT TEAM - provided ALS medical coverage at SAR Base as well as a team high on the mountain alongside PMR throughout the entirety of the search

MT. WAVE - provided top-notch communication support around the mountain. Without them the comms would have been a nightmare

PACIFIC NW SAR - provided a ground team on Monday/Tuesday for searching the canyons below Timberline

MH SKI PATROL - the nordic patrol searched White River on two seperate occasions

SAR in NW Oregon is comprised of a lot of teams. Props to all of them!!!
