Please everyone try to understand that the immature and argumentative rockjocks and token chalkbag bitch that frequent this forum are members of a Chosen Priesthood. It would be best if all of the non-climbers just step away in awe, but know that if you must ask questions then only two are allowed. "How do you get the rope up there?" and "Just exactly how tremendously huge are your cojones anyway?"

that Belay Bitch to you mister. I don't so don't boulder :noway:

I think it depends on whether you think the big snow cave was dug by one or three. Yet, I can't help but think there was only one accident, which claimed two of them, and then the third returned to the cave. Otherwise, you would need two accidents, and I think that is unlikely. Knowing little about climbing but more about human nature, I really don't think his brothers would abandon him to what would be almost certain death in that cave without proper clothing or supplies. There was no sleeping bag, no warm jacket according to one report. They were planning on a day trip. And, the sheriff said, always plan on three days up there. In this case, it was more like 10.

There was a cell phone, yet no one calls for help until there is only one.

wow! you really like to speculate on this. i was kidding just let go . practice on this so that when the love of you life changes wives, you'll be emotionally prepared.

life sucks sometimes.

if you go climbing ONCE, you'll understand. good luck!

Oh I've been in all sorts of life threatening situations, some that made my hair curl (it used to be straight). But, I do know this much, it is never just one thing that goes wrong, it is always multiple things converging to what looks like an inevitable conclusion. Thus, my philosophy is to always have a multiple back up system now, or, if you want to call it that, decision tree.

But like you said, we do have to accept what we can't change.

I suspect their worse case scenario was having to spend the night in one of the huts higher up on the mountain, then coming down the next day. But, they couldn't find their way there for whatever reason.

we are all edgy on this subject , because we all have had close calls in the mountains and by will and grace, we survived. we all have had friends who died also , and sometimes its 100% the mountain's fault, like lightning, and other times we are more responsible for the outcome.that's what climbing is: you have to do it with YOUR capacity. as best you can.

eitherway you have to go back up.

...I really don't think ________ would abandon him to what would be almost certain death...

We've all been abandoned here to certain death.

I'm the clairvoyant drunk in the tavern yelling, "WHOEVER BROUGHT ME HERE HAS GOT TO TAKE ME HOME!"

Wow. Quite the grasp of the situation there Molly. At least your spelling was OK and you used the proper form of "their". Many folks here just don't understand the difference. Hats off to you for that aspect of your post.

This may take the cake (excerpt from summmitpost):

I feel really dumb for posting this and not sure if it could or would be possible- But is there a way that some sort of "flashing type" RED radio tower light of some sort could be placed at or near the PEARLY GATES? I know this may not have prevented this latest tragedy, but I sense that is what these 3 men were looking for to find their way down and out of there during the unpredictable storm that they suddenly faced.

Or maybe if there was also some sort of a lit up light to warn of the dangers being near "The Gullies" ? (where the other 2 climbers may be found now...)

I pray this woman is not running for office. OMFG!
