WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

Yes, those Ukranian knock-offs are stunning. I wonder if anyone is concerned about their use of the terms "camalot" and "flexible friends?" Check out the quality manufacturing: that paint job, tidy swage covers, and precision milled grooves just knock me out!

Agreed, they copied everything but the name and the quality it appears. It makes you wonder what kind of testing and liability issues they would have if say.....hmmm, that center bar was accidently not heat treated so that instead of Rockwell 48-52 or whatever the hell it should be, it came in at RC38 and failed at 1200 lbs, which, come to think of it, is approx. my lard-assed weight in a 2 foot fall with 5' of rope out.

I think I'm gonna by me one of those nut tools though. 12"......., damn, I've always wanted 12".

I'm doing it right now.

Liability issues? Can you imagine trying to take them to court?

The nuts on the ends of the axles are a very nice touch. I wander if they are at least the type with the plastic core that don't wiggle themselves loose over time?

Old WC Friends used to have nuts on the end of the axles. If you could reach the nut with a socket wrench, it made getting overcammed stuck Friends out pretty damn easy, you just disassembled it in the crack. thumbs_up.gif

They don't have any listed and they have not returned my email. Hmmmmmmmmmm

No 12" tool for Bill. Might have to sac up and just by a big metal shelf bracket, wrap some duct tape on the handle part and call it a day.

An old partner from days of yore once opined, "Sobo, you can't buy Friends." It is true in more ways than one... crazy.gif

Oh yeah?!? Well, I bought mine, and at a discount too!!! yellaf.gif

So you have cheap friends. I have cheap friends, too, but at least I didn't have to buy them. yellaf.gif

yup and they came through with 2 of those nut tools for me. I hit the end on a grinder and sharpened the hell out of it, it makes quite the crack cleaning device if you put the right grind on it.

I bought some climbax cams, pretty cheap, from pagan gear and on the third use I snapped a trigger wire french freeing, pretty sure that AINT supposed to happen. Also the climbax cams rusted up on my within a year of minimal to normal use, while my old #1 camalot is going stronger than ever and is so much easier to place. The climbax cams have this weird twisting action when you try to place them. Overall even being the big ass cheapo that I am, I wouldnt buy them again.
