There's also is one (used to be one a couple of years ago) at the Leading Edge North Gymnastics Center, behind Civic Stadium or Haskell Business center. I used to volunteer one night a week and got free climbing all year long. Beware the Boy Scout groups and birthday parties!!!! ;o)

Haven't been to the Y yet. Why's it suck?

The walls are entreprise imprint panels, not very many t-nuts per panel due to the irregular surfaces.

The wall, though tall, has limited routes because of the narrowness, and there is no bouldering, just some weak-ass traverse.

Plus you have to deal with the Y mentality, and poseurs hangdogging all over the difficult routes.

Beware of the one on campus, it is super busy in the evenings with boulderers, especially this time of year. I don't know how much it costs if you aren't a student, but if you are, you get to pay a mandatory $85 a quarter to use the rec center. I hope you like it in B'ham!
