ahh yes,.. fitting in, the elusive unabtainable goal of the geek......worse, desiring to fit in with clubbies

The Schwinn Orange Crate is the coolest sting-ray ever built, sting-rays being the coolest bikes ever built....of course geeks would not know that....

and finishing off each others sentences, thats so cute.

Luke is a special kind of geek, climbing V10 makes geek way cool. Besides he gets women = not so geek.

yes, but the orange crate paint was metallic with a 6 inch tall 5 speed shifter on the center bar, springer front forks with small tire, a hand brake and a sparkley orange banana seat.

that pretty much trumps plain old red.

I had one of those when I was about, what, 10? And it had a cheater slick on the back and a sissy bar. It was too cool to ride.

5 speed? Mine was 3 speed, which (need I say?) is way cooler than 5.

And mine had rear coaster brakes for that extra bit of posh.

Hand brakes are tacky in comparison, of course.

apple crate

orange crate

lemon peeler

split pea

some had coaster brakes, some had sissy bars, there were minor variations between them I recall. Mine was front hand brake and coaster brake on the cheater slick. or was it? no. It was so hard to choose at the schwinn shop. circa 1968, 69?

I've got to say, that schlongular shifter does have a certain muscle-car appeal.

It was a sign of the times... :sigh:

Did I ever tell you how one time I went around the block 13 times no-hands! And that was a big midwestern block, mind you.

No, but somehow, I think we're going to hear the story... grin.gif
