WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

Death at the Coulee

Recommended Posts

Hey I heard Goran Krop, died yesterday climbing Air Guitar at the Coulee. Is this true, does anybody have a link to the story. That's fucking crazy, world class climber and air guitar, I guess it can happen to anyone. What depressing news.

NEWSFLASH UPDATE 10/1/2002: Goran Kropp has died climbing. Various sources are reporting to EverestNews.com that Goran died climbing yesterday.

Renata Chlumska, Goran's girlfriend, and the first Swedish woman to summit Everest, was not with him when the accident occurred. More soon....

No, not alot there. [Roll Eyes]

This is true.

I was Göran's belayer.

He was within feet of the top on Air Guitar when he fell. The rope went slack, then started to rip the gear. The entire chain of pro that he had placed up to that point ripped. He impacted the shelf from which I was belaying. Then continued to fall onto the talus another 25 feet. The one piece that remained in the crack pulled him from the talus back onto the climbers' path. He was dead on first impact, he did not suffer.

I lost my hero yesterday. It was a sad day for humanity.

I ask that please let us talk to the family, and contact all next of kin before any frenzy is created over this accident.

Thank you.

Erden.

I saw his slideshow a few years ago and sat in awe of a man who could show us how far the human spirit can take us. My condolences to his family and friends. What a loss.

Horrible.

One time Yoder told me how he had just a week before peeled some body off a slab I was sitting on at the time. This was due to all the gear ripping out as well. I think it was just below Party in Your Pants but my memory is hazy.

Is nothing sacred from your vantage/bolt bashing?

Dwayner - Thanks for establishing yourself as a prick once again. Where I hold no love for the climbing area at Vantage, that is immaterial. Goran apparently died enjoying a sport that he loves, climbing. How pathetic is it to die doing something that you gain such enjoyment and personal fulfillment from, as Goran surely did? Piss off, Dwayner. My condolences to Goran's family and to Erden as well.

I've been told that the family has been notified since it has been in the press in Sweden since this morning. What an incredible person, my thoughts are with the friends and family.

I think the documentary of his journey to Everest and back was the most inspirational story I've ever heard. I can't remember the last time the death of someone that I didn't know grieved me so deeply.

i was at the coulee yesterday with a friend. we made a quick stop at the portapotties before going back to the feathers to climb. there was only one other vehicle there and when we left the lot it had taken off, leaving a guy in a down jacket and a hat standing there with a pack or two. i wonder if that was erden ...

what an eerie feeling. eerie and sad. [Frown]

This dude was awesome! Though his passing is sad, let his accomplishments and ambitions continue to serve us as inspiration. He was a true hardman, and I hope that I can be just a bit like him.
