WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

What Alpinism Means to Me

A Slide Show/Confessional with Patagonia Alpine Ambassador Barry Blanchard

Friday, October 1, 7 p.m.

Patagonia, 2100 First Ave., Seattle

Join Barry Blanchard, one of Canada's foremost alpinists and a Patagonia alpine ambassador, as he tells why he's dedicated his entire adult life to finding the perfect new route up the perfect mountain. He'll show slides from climbing trips to the Canadian Rockies, Mt. Blanc, Nuptse, Everest, K2 and others to illustrate the ways mountains engage we humans and demonstrate how climbing soothes the soul.

This event is free. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, phone Patagonia at 206-622-9700.

Someone talk him into going out to the Rope Up and climbing in Leavenworth with y'all! He and his wife are really nice folks and are really laid back folks. I ran into them on Orizaba two years ago and on Denali last year. Should be a stellar slide show at the least!

here's barry in our regulator jacket...oh and here he is lounging in a das parka...come celebrate the romantic simplicity of alpinism . . . and buy our $70 jeans while you are there!

It would be fun being a patagonia catalog writer. Jeans. Uses: Traipsing through the backroads of Mongolia, working on the vw bus, mending barbed wire fences...

Not bad. He's a good writer on Metolius product Web site and I hear from Canadian clients & guides that he's a fine fellow. I wonder when Babe of Everest will do a lecture tour. (forgot name but featured on this site). Does she have an accent?

Annabelle does have an accent. She's more charming in person than in the pics! A really nice person.

Blanchard gave an excellent slide show. Very engaging speaker, funny as hell, and my god has he climbed some unbelievable lines in the Rockies, Alps, and Himalayas. Great photographer as well. In the end he gave a moving tribute to his buddies Dave Cheesemond and Alex Lowe.

I took an ice climbing course from Yamnuska this summer in which Barry was the guide. Superb guy. Unassuming, not at all arrogant, and sure as heck knows his stuff.

Agreed, great show! Some priceless stories, including that of his partner who'd brush the snow off with his mitt, take his hand out, lick his fingers, grab the hold and let things freeze, and rip his hand off the hold later...

Then there was Vaseline Research...
