TimL Posted June 7, 2004 Share Posted June 7, 2004 I always wonder sometimes how so many people get away with stupid decisions and risks. I guess natural selection is not true statistically, because there would be many more dead climbers. When I first start climbing I was told that everyone goes through an "apprenticeship" phrase were they are learning the skills they need to climb and are wide open to getting in trouble from a lack of knowledge, or just plain stupid mistakes. Dru Posted June 7, 2004 Share Posted June 7, 2004 i have been thinking about trying to go lightweight and top rope just through slings, without using biners. but i've heard that rope friction can burn through slings if you do this. So, I plan to coat my slings with either astroglide, or vaseline, to cut down on the friction. but, now i'm worried that these substances might damage my rope. do you think it'll be ok? Like the kind used to tie bails of hay? Because I've been using that stuff for setting up topropes and it works great. Super lightweight too! Cat urine is the only thing known to man that damages rope.... Oh wait... this isn't rec.climbing.... Just double up on those slings and you'll be fine.
