Not really a 'rock' song, but I always liked Allmans' "Pony Boy."

Slide guitar on Dire Straits' "Brothers In Arms"

Duane Allman, David Lindley, Ry Cooder are all slide masters. I kinda like the sound of the dobro better than a slide electric, though.

Ry Cooder on "She Runs Hot" from the Little Village CD. Or on second thought, it's his solo on "The Very Thing" from Bop 'til You Drop.

Bonnie Raitt also grew into an amazingly deadly elec. slide player. She kind of inherited/adapted that Lowell George sizzle. Most of her solos blow away anything Allman ever did, imo. Too bad about the both of 'em. Drugs suck, btw.

Lightnin Hopkins' "Mister Charlie"

Robbie Robertson said that after he heard Lightnin play, he practiced and practiced until his fingers bled, trying to emulate the sound. It was only after all the pain that someone told him Lightnin Hopkins was the king of the slide guitar.

Check out "Lightnin' in New York" ...He also plays boogie-woogie piano on that record. But Hopkins doesn't count because he's not rock. He's pure blues roots. "Boy, if you can't say it, then sing it! ...Whoa-oh Mister Charlie, you mill is burnin' down."

Ry Cooder: "Vigilante Man," "Thirteen Question Method"

Agreed, but you have to admit that as Lightnin Hopkins tunes go, "Mister Charlie" rocks more than most.

G'nR's "Bad Obsession" with Slash on slide, recorded live in Tokyo on 1992's ultra-rare double live "Banzai" CD. Note: this is different then the double Live Era CD put out in 1999, for all the gunners out there....

I love that part where they yell out "R" "O" "C" "K" and then the crowd yells "ROCCCKKKKK!!!!"

Fuckin awesome thumbs_up.gif
