gotnoname
my local mountaineering club is planning a ski-touring trip to Adams May 21-23. I have never been there. Can anyone provide good links for information on trails, road access weather etc. TIA

gotnoname
thanks k44. Has anyone been there recently on the south side? The road conditions was last updated April 28. I'm just wandering if you can drive closer to the campsite.
Dr_Crash
At the very bottom of the second page, it says: Â For the latest information on conditions please call the Mt. Adams Ranger Station at 509-395-3400. Â That would be a way to get the answers you want. Â drC
Thrill
anyone been up this last weekend? 5/15? how long is the approach?
natazoo
We went up this past weekend 5/17. I'd estimate the approach is about 3 1/2 - 4 miles from Cold Springs Trailhead (patchy snow). The road is snowed in at 1800 ft. You can follow the snowmobile tracks and short-cut the road a bit too.
Thrill
no 4X4 getting in higher?
k44
you could always bum a ride from a snowmobiler up to the lunch counter...some of those guys aren't too bad  as dr crash said the ranger station would have the most updated info. they send people up almost everyday and always make it up for the weekends.  be careful about parking in the road. i think they towed a couple of people last year. gotnoname
I phone the ranger station today and she said you can drive to 3 miles from the campsite. A couple more questions before I leave you guys in peace, 1. Whats the elevation at the campsite? 2. Is there a lot of elevation gain from 3 miles out to the campsite? Â TIA
Dr_Crash
Dude, get a map of Mt Adams (if USGS quads, it's two maps), that will help with the above two questions as well as be useful for the climb... (And yes I'd answer if I had my maps right around here, but I don't, and I haven't made a trip there yet, sorry...) Â drC
hopalong
I think lunch is at 8000. There is a map that centers on Mt. Adams. Edited May 18, 2004 by hopalong
tomtom
Or go to the map making kiosk at REI and get a map printed on waterproof paper showing the south side. Probably cheaper than buying two regular maps.
Ducknut
There is a gain of about 1500 to 2000 feet from Mrrison to cold springs. The lunch counter is any where from 9000 to 9500 feet. The campsite is where ever you throw dwn the tent.
