We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

Interesting hightech device (roller) with some surprises in store for the un-wary. Had an experience at the climbing gym. TR situation. Invited to belay, rope all set up so I put him on belay and up he went. He fell 1/2 way and up I went. He had put a pulley on the toprope biner and had not told me. I was not actually lifted off the ground but if it had been a leader fall I would have gone flying. The loss of friction accross the biner has some obvious advantages, including more evenly spreading the fall stresses accross the full amount of rope out. But the Belayer needs to be fully aware of the additional forces coming his way. The belay, belay device and Belayer better be bomb proof.
