YamB Posted June 1, 2004 Share Posted June 1, 2004 Interesting hightech device (roller) with some surprises in store for the un-wary. Had an experience at the climbing gym. TR situation. Invited to belay, rope all set up so I put him on belay and up he went. He fell 1/2 way and up I went. He had put a pulley on the toprope biner and had not told me. I was not actually lifted off the ground but if it had been a leader fall I would have gone flying. The loss of friction accross the biner has some obvious advantages, including more evenly spreading the fall stresses accross the full amount of rope out. But the Belayer needs to be fully aware of the additional forces coming his way. The belay, belay device and Belayer better be bomb proof.
