WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

I don't think Stalin valued individual liberty even in theory, but I'd agree that we need the whole political melange to achieve something useful.

ditto... but i fail to see how you still are happy that you score as a hard-core liberal than with that mentality. Theoretically, socialism was for the people; to rid them of the evils of the uber-rich. but in practice it was bastardized. it has been everytime it has been tried. i dont see why it would be any different here than there. so again. why be proud of this affiliation? confused.gif

what is this false assumption that stalin was a leftist? stalin was a cuckoo, a bird which lays its nest in the eggs of other birds and gets the other birds to raise the young, to their own detriment.

No shit. To compare an insane dictator in a country with a long and battered history of people being screwed to a country founded by people trying make a more level playing field is a little skewed. Totally different aims.

Communism(which by the way, was not what happened in the USSR, or anywhere else for that matter) and liberalism are not even in the same area code. Liberalism and Conservatism are both measured, appropriate responses to our prevailing system of government. Extremism, in any form, is not.

If anything, the more fundamental disagreement is between libs and conservative types and libertarians.

Scott, I think you are young and clueless and so are your politics. tongue.gif

I'm sure your poitics can be molded in much the same way as that Mohammed guy molded Lee Malvo's(sp?) shooting skills. Maybe you and Fairweather should go for a road trip. yellaf.gif

Alpo, I think you are a product of antiquated political thinking. If you are content with your two-party system, then that all the more proves my point. It was clear I was joking about the Stalin shit and if you can't see that, you are even more blind than I thought. Quit huffing your bio-diesel. wave.gif

Really? then why are the president, vice president, senators, and members of the house either dems or repubs? (maybe 1 or 2 exceptions) The vast majority of Governors are repubs or dems, and I'm having a hard time thinking of any one elected in the state of WA who isn't either a dem or a repub.

Happy? While I'm very happy, with regards to my political leanings I'm merely reporting what the Libertarian test said about me. Many of the political systems are in theory lovely to live in, but only if you leave the nasty selfish self important chestbeating human species out of the equation. None of the real world attempts to achieve socialism have included any reverence for individual freedoms, therefore they're not really left-liberal, are they? To put things in an overly simplified Michael Moorcockian universe, life is a struggle between Chaos and Law, and supremacy of either side is doom for us humans trapped between pure ideals. Everything is a lot grayer than you think, Scott.

Dru, is this a quote or a personal revelation? I'd have to say it's as great an analogy to explain Stalin as any I've heard.

AK, as working class liberals, you and I are in the same boat, so it's a little painful for me to defend Scott Harpel. I'd like to point out that your examples merely suggest that he can't type, rather than spell. Teh must be one of the most "misspelled" words in the computer world. Got it, cheif? ( yellaf.gif)
