WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

I'm considering Strickland's idea of voting Libertarian this time around. Actually, I've been considering it for a couple of months now. If more of us start leaning this way, they won't be wasted votes.

Who's this year's libertarian candidate? Perhaps you should write Steve Forbes in on your ballots.

Well down in the south...just kidding. Did you ever see that bit on the Daily Show (I think) about Forbes and how he's an alien...he never blinks his eyes. They showed some loooong clip of him speaking, a headshot, without sound, and I swear the dude blinked twice in two or three minutes. Spooky....

Hadn't noticed the lack of blinking. When he ran in 96 I thought some of the stuff he said made sense. That was before I got reaquainted with my liberal leftist roots.

That was from a Michael Moore show.

Assmonkey is Left-Liberal.

Left-Liberals prefer self-government in personal matters and central decision-making on economics. They want government to serve the disadvantaged in the name of fairness. Leftists tolerate social diversity, but work for economic equality, and in general are on average 52% more intelligent than all people of other political persuasions, and fully 98% more intelligent than people who voted for W.

Well Trask, that's why Liberals make better leaders and the Libertarians and Conservatives make good career military personnel.

Silly rabbit, you were on a pretty good roll there for awhile. Stalin is a classic example of an Authoritarian. How would you justify him as in favor of individual liberty? Don't revert to being a knee-jerk neo-con, you're much more interesting as a thinking Libertarian.

actually you are missing my point. in theory he is a liberal, but in practice an authoritarian. it kinda shows how true liberalism would fall on its ass if it weren't for the checks and balances of other parties. i think liberalism is needed, but only as a checks and balances for the other real forms of government.

I don't think Stalin valued individual liberty even in theory, but I'd agree that we need the whole political melange to achieve something useful.

ditto... but i fail to see how you still are happy that you score as a hard-core liberal than with that mentality. Theoretically, socialism was for the people; to rid them of the evils of the uber-rich. but in practice it was bastardized. it has been everytime it has been tried. i dont see why it would be any different here than there. so again. why be proud of this affiliation? confused.gif

Stalin was an opportunist who joined the communist party; also he knew a thing or two about using political power, knocking heads, and dirty tricks.
