WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

For that matter, I had to:

fill out the Reservation form

fill out the UUF form, get it signed by a big dood, and then turn it in to someone else

fill out the Fundraising form

fill out the SAUF form

fill out the Ticket Sales form, get it signed by a big dood, and then turn it in to someone else

toss in two or three meetings with bureaucrats, a 50% advance deposit on our expenses

and multiply that by 2 for the two shows we're having, and all of a sudden, the workload from these two shows is basically a part-time job.

There is often incompetence along the way.

"Here is my reservation form. Do I have the room reserved?"

"It's not reserved by anyone else right now, but earlier today, someone else could have reserved it for that time. We'll get back to you in two weeks."

There are a few nice folks who are helpful; you know who you are.

Oh yeah, with some luck, tomorrow I'll be receiving a $1000+ travel reimbursement from the U... for travel in July. I don't even want to go into the incompetence on that one.

Sometimes I feel that the Climbing Club is succeeding in spite of the university, not because of the university.

If this seems so inconvenient to you, you might want to try out thid thing we call real grown-up life soon. It will make filling out forms and getting paid to go on vacations seem like a pretty nice deal.

I clipped and shipped the latter part of the original thread from where it devolves from the slideshow to a bunch of carping. --off white

Allison, you have no clue. When you are accepted to a PhD program at the UW, you may commence whining on the subject. If your job doesn't pay you to travel, like millions of others in the US, get another one, preferably one that keeps you away from a computer so you can't spray your bullshit on cc.com. hellno3d.gif

Thanks to Gary for taking the time to put together this show, it was great fun!

It seems inconvenient for you but you might want to try out thid thing we call spell check. After that monumental life goal has been achieved we would be more than happy to hear about "real grown-up life". That sounds fascinating. Perhaps I too lack the life education to grasp this ... I wish I had a better labour union protecting me ... yeah, then I would feel safe to spray about hard working people, people I would normally hold a lot of respect for.

Some people roll through life taking what they can get and some take matters into their own hands; they do something about where they want to be. Every lifestyle is a choice but some live in a stupor, blinding consciousness. bigdrink.gif

This second paragraph is not directed at anyone in particular (ie. this is not a personal attack). But I must say I respect people in life who have vision as opposed to those who lead a pinball life. Gary is one of those people I respect.

I'm sure you meant no harm. It's just these online forums that lead to such easy misunderstandings.

So Allison, was it real grown-up life when you sent an editing bill for thid editing you didn't complete?

But back on topic, Timmy's show was hilarious! Plus, I'm now bearing his illegitimate child. pitty.gif

Okay flamesters, here's the thing:

Event planning is harder than it looks. In the real world to rent a room and do a slide show, it would be this much hassle and more.

When people who are living the academic life complain about things like Gary is complaining about, people who live life in the regular world, like me, may show little patience.

Event planners and managers don't have, or need PhDs. There is no PhD program for this sort of thing. People get good at doing events, from bar mitzvahs to operas and everything between, by learning from people, talented and not so talented, as to what works and what doesn't work.

I feel that Gary has some misdirected passion in making something of the UW Climbing Club. That energy could be put to, IMO, much better use elsewhere. Like a charity, for example.

That said, there's a reason that there's a whole sub-industry in show biz of people and companies that do event planning and management.

What the hell are you talking about? Academia vs 'real life'? WTF does that mean? Define 'real life'. Props to Gary for putting the show together, even though I wasn't able to attend. See, the thing is, Gary isn't a professional planner in 'the real world'. He's just another grad student who is nice enough to devote quite some time to giving us nice slide shows. The UWCC doesn't have the funds to hire smart people who know how to plan events in 'the real world'. I still don't get your argument.

And last time I check, Marylou, it's Gary's choice where he wants to do with his time, not yours. Quit being such a judgemental asshole, let people do what they want with their free time, and the world would be a better place.

You must be a real expert on the real world by now, Paul. wave.gif

Gary was whining. If he needs to whine, maybe he should call his parents or his best friend or something.

There is nothing wrong with organizing a slide show that people want to see and broadcasting it for the benefit of both viewers and givers.

Whether or not Gary is making the UW climbing Club something that Allison is in disapproval of is probably beyond her mind.

If someone doesnt care about a charity or does not feel that it is correct to do any sort of benefit for some charity that Allison is dreaming of because Bush has polluted that charity hahaha.gif then they don't have to.

Thanks to Gary for outdoing Allison without trying. It's funny when people wanting to be edumacated are grasping at straws to prove themselves and essentially make asses out of themselves.

Allison, WTF are you talking about? Get back on your meds yo!

The guy had to jump through a bunch of BS hoops. I've done event planning and production in the "real world" and it didn't involve being subjected to the kind of bureacratic BS that it did when I arranged events at my undergrad school. With autonomy comes power. Three phone calls, a visit to a couple of folks to drop off deposit checks and it's done. None of that "we'll let you know if it's definite in two weeks" because you'd tell them to suck it and take your business somewhere else. The beauty of competitive capitalism. WTF are you so bitter about? Take all that misdirected energy and apply THAT to a charity eh?

And you know what else.....

Two words uptight and self righteous. Sounds like someone is a little pissed that they did not experience academia and have no understanding that the schools actually have money set aside and budgeted for clubs such as this. Get off your soapbox.

Woman hater! yelrotflmao.gif

Little Napolean there might need some help from the blue meanine (I heard some middle aged lady on a talk radio show call Viagra that one time yellaf.gif). Hell, Rafael Palmiero uses it and he's sportin enough wood to smack 500 homers.

I actually found that the PNW is full of hotties. They're just covered up in sweaters and rainjackets all the time so you don't notice it as much. But, I dont' go for the plastic barbie look that pervades the eastcoast either so maybe that's it. They should really call SoCal and Florida "Silicone Alley".

I'm a selective misogynist. I only hate bitchy drama queen gold-digger yuppie republican women blush.gif

Oops! Sorry Minx. Don't ban me yet, I'll try again...

Timmy O'Neill rocks! He's funny as shit, go see his show because you won't be dissapointed! Props to Gary for his work.

Some posts got deleted somewhere because I put the snaffle pic in as a pagetop, where it sat for a couple of days.

will-knock it off! i wouldn't ban you for that kind of stuff. (well ok except quoting that quote which i wish would die) i like the discussion...not of the slide show but of the alleged misogyny. i just don't think the name calling helps.

i think women and men are really different (go figure huh?) you guys insult the crap out of each other and no one cries that much about it. let's face it no one's ever slung out a crack about my mom. but if you start slinging insults towards a female you're walking a fine line between having fun, a normal way in which you might deal w/an annoying male poster, and cries of "misogyny" from the women.

i'm seriously interested in what the guys on this board think about it. what's an effective (not whiny way) for the women who post here to deal w/a comment directed at them that they feel is denigrating? personally i think that just shutting it down with a good response works w/o crying discrimination. most of you guys don't seem to intentionally cross the line that way with most of us so i let a lot of stuff go personally.
