Cough up the Trip Reports

Hey, I got to Skaha this weekend. Climbed slo-pitch on the prow. A multi pitch trad route and no crowds, didn't feel like Skaha at all. Then we went to an overhanging clip-fest where everyone was hanging, spraying and lounging, and it felt very much like Skaha after all.

Both me and my partner forgot our guidebooks, so if we were rifling through yours while you were climbing, thanks. thumbs_up.gif

Climbed the SE route on Formidable Sat-Sun. On Saturday there was about 1.5 ft. of seasonal snow on N-facing slopes up high, but it was consolidating fast. By Sunday afternoon most of the S-facing slopes were generally snow-free. The Cascade River road has several washouts, and Boston Creek is particularly bad. It's still closed at the NPS boundary.

Escorted the larvae to Evans lk. Burned many small sticks in the stove but no fire resulted as the wood was all wet. Threw rocks at fish. Yelled at echo repeatedly. Introduced the larvae to bushwhacking in devils club. They liked it. Must be hereditary. 5 yr old sunk to her knees in bog mud. Returned to bank with minimal whining. Still insisted on "leading". Star gymnist too. I see a ropegun in my future. Maybe two.

Oldest spawn got up and through the crux of a route before wanting to come down...

Good times...

Friday night stayed out way too late with an old HS buddy and had way too many brews. bigdrink.gif

Saturday AM got up way too early to help another buddy (and like ten other dudes) pour a big slab inside his new pole building. The pumper truck was there at 6:00am! I had forewarned him to make dang sure his form boards were braced really good because that wet concrete is heavier than you think, but noooo, we still have a big "F@CK!NG BLOWOUT!!!" so no less than 6 hungover guys, (ok so maybe some still a little tipsy rolleyes.gif) go screaming through the half poured slab outside and start shoveling, pounding, prying, cursing and shoving the 8'x2' form back into place, kneeling in the spilt concrete, (while the guys left inside keep right on pouring madgo_ron.gif ) and had'er braced back up properly and pouring mud again in no time. Got done with the finishing by 1:00, had some pizza and watched the Huskies get their asses kicked. And mowed the lawn. My lawn. Not my buddy's.

Sunday started to drive over the pass to go TRing with the family in the Icicle, but, stopped and hiked on this side instead since it was so nice over here. thumbs_up.gif

Finally checked out the Enchantments on one of the most beautiful days of the year. Left SC parking lot at 7:00, got back to the Stuart Colchuck Trailhead at 5:30, picked up the stashed mountain bike and rode back to the car by the light of the Tikka.

Went mountain biking by Leavenworth Saturday and got asked by several people wearing bright red hats if I have seen any Elk snaf.gifhellno3d.gif.

Had bigdrink.gif that night and forgot the bike rack mounted on trunk (no bikes on it) as I shut it--Owww.

Next day hiking out of Snow Creek wall trail and slipped on rock avoiding someones unleashed dog boxing_smiley.gif spraining ankle madgo_ron.gif.

Nice weather and forget this time change thing.

Recovering now wishing I was still there. Geek_em8.gif

I know this isn't cascadebikers.com, but mountain bikers don't have a decent discussion site and they aren't as cool as you dudes (hey, if I suck up you might not bounce my request below).

Anyway, I got in one last butt-kicking ride in the Chikaman Ridge area -- starting low in dark forest and working up through meadows sprinkled with snow and golden larch needles. I had never seen so many needles on the ground like that. It was like riding through some fairyland covered in gold silk. And then flashed back to the car before night.

Which brings me to the request: Any m-bikers out there? The eastside season is over but there is always wet westside riding before places like Devil's Gulch open up in May.

Sent the Green Dragon on the upper town wall at Index. Amazing weather. Killer route. cool.gif While belaying my partner up the first pitch we watched in amazement as a honda accord sized block exfoliated from the wall near the bottom of the waterfall. Exploded at the base about 50 feet to the right of us. shocked.gif

brought a homemade belay seat which rockband.gif.

made it to dinner at my girlfriends folks house in sultan by 6:30.

Last minute trip to L-worth Friday night, finally climbed at Pearly Gates on Sat. after months of wishful daydreaming. It rockband.gif. Felt stupid after making it up crux of Celestial Groove no prob, then wussing out to easier crack on right because the top seemed too hard for 5.7, only to realize later I was misreading the topo (it's 5.9). I hate those mind games -- if I'd been expecting 5.9 I would have tried it and prolly sent it. Stupid brain... hellno3d.gif

Sat: fill out quarterly forms and write checks, make a new tree climbing rope with 2 eye splices, Find out I've blistered my hand making eye splices.

Sunday: Meet up with CJZ and drive to Index, climb R's Corner and Bfast of Champs. In the process I pop all my blisters. Decide to quit climbing.

After we quit climbing CJZ wanted to check out Zeke's. We drove up to the clearcut and started following these two kids on 4 wheelers (boy and girl). They got ahead of us after one switchback in the road, but we caught up with them and see the girl with her 4 wheeler parked in the road while she looks off the edge of the road. We get out of the truck and find out that the boy gunned his 4 wheeler and jumped off the road. He was standing in this brush pile about 50 feet down the hill and his 4 wheeler was nowhere in sight. We scrambled down to him and checked him out. he was fine, so we brushwacked a little lower to find his rig sitting on its side.

So CJZ and I were both hoping for some action, but nothing seemed to be happening, so we hiked back up to the truck and talked to these 2 drunk dirt bike guys who had stopped to check things out. Anyway nothing was going on, so we cruised up to the boulderfield and looked at some of the problems. After a while we headed back down to the wreck site and there were the parents of the two kids. The father hiked down to the 4 wheeler and decided that he would drive it to the road below. Anyway we hung out hoping for some more action but nothing happened, so we split.
