Dru Posted August 6, 2003 Share Posted August 6, 2003 This might be of interest to some people on this site planning on going to a certain range of mountains near Bella Coola soon. 2003.08.01 Road closures in effect. Hwy #20 is closed during the day in the area of the "big hill", (a few kilometers west of Heckman Pass). It is closed from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM Monday to Saturday. There is a one hour opening Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM. It is open all day on Sunday. This is to allow for improvements to be made on the steep and narrow sections of the "big hill", which is the long winding descent from Heckman Pass to the Bella Coola Valley below. There is still one gravel section of the highway which extends from Anahim Lake to the Bella Coola Valley. Some of this has been coated and so dust is only a problem in the area of Heckman Pass and the big hill and is not too bad. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

An evacuation alert has been issued for several small communities threatened by the fire. Residents of Chilko Lake, Anahim reserve, Alexis Creek and the Nemiah Valley have been told to be ready to flee at a moment's notice.
