Really? And what do you base this assumption on, asshole? Do you know Rob well?

Maybe because he said this:

Considering it's got oversize wheels and tires, sunroof, leather interior, and a few other options

I'm not the gold watch type, but in the parking lot here there are new sedans, Explorers, pickups, even a new Expedition. If I drive a beater, I'm making a statement to my employees...and not the right one.

Sounds like the typical SUV uses. 99% if trailheads don't require an SUV, so it's the status thing, as usual. And yes, I use a 4x4 for work regularly, and we're not on the typical USFS road. Better have a winch if you want to follow.

I had this dream, somehow I'm roaring down the maountain in my new machine, tearing right through Pebble Creek...when--- Lo and Behold---there cowers Jim right in front of me, clutching a handful of his stickers... hahaha.gifhahaha.gif

Actually trask, this is a long-standing thing with Jim. He popped off way-back-when as the world's arbiter of groundwater use. He knows from our little discussion back then that I may well go offroad as part of my work.

Jim's a socialist who has a case of 'capitalist envy.' madgo_ron.gifboxing_smiley.gifyelrotflmao.gif

And I don't agree that 99% of trailheads don't warrant a 4x4 (or at least a 2wd pickup). I damn near destroyed a rental car one day last summer in CO getting up a trailhead... Geek_em8.gif

I never called myself a groundwater expert, it's just that I knew the details of the lie you were presenting and you got caught. And tell us about the rugged "off-road" work you'll be doing with the leather-seated vehicle.

It still is a sad state of affairs when people choose cars to make "statements" rather than practicality. cars are beasts of burden to get my lazy ass and the crap I own from point a to b, and that's all.

But they want to have "No Boundaries". Ugh! HCL.gif

Y'know, it's just so easy to stir Jim's ire. Here I am all happy with a new vehicle, and he wants to say I was 'lying' about the politics of groundwater and that I don't use my vehicle offroad for work. Okay, buddy, whatever.

The unfortunate truth is that I have owned 4 prev 4x4s in 16 yrs of doing this work, and I at some-time-or-other stuck 3 of the 4 in ways that required help pulling out. Geek_em8.gif I don't have to like it, it's part of what I do. I happen to like leather seats. They are easier to clean than cloth seats in almost any circumstance. Jim, you are full of it.

Congrats on the new ride, Rob. Sounds like a nice rig.

As for the complainers, most of them are innately uncomfortable with the idea that individuals are allowed to define "need" for themselves and pursue it.

I agree, leather is much bette rfor getting dirty than cloth. Cloth is a pain to clean.

I still can't believe you claim you need this vehicle to keep up with the jones' in your parking lot at work. What kind of insecure loser are you? I really can't see how what type of car you drive should matter to your employees. My boss at work doesn't even own a car (takes the bus) I guarantee he makes more than 99.9% of the people on this board. Not that I wish to give the idea that I care how much he, or any of you make, but you guys do seem fairly fixated on it.

Joshk, I'm not gonna beat this into the ground, but let me try to explain in just a few words:

I manage my own co (I started it back in the late 80s); we operate several complexes some distance apart, and I have suppliers even further distances apart. I drive 35,000-45,000 miles per year (10 years ago it was 50+). Goddammit, I don't want to drive an old piece of shit. I want the people who buy stuff from me or sell stuff from me to have a comfortable ride in my vehicle, if I happen to give 'em a ride.

Maybe I'm an insecure loser for wanting to drive a new vehicle after I've put 140k on the old one... rolleyes.gif Fact is that I can afford a new one, and the 'bourbon left me stranded in the rain with a bad fuel pump recently. Was time for a change. Josh, I think your boss may be working too hard to be anti-establishment.
