WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

I watched Fred last night. I enjoyed the show and am impressed with Fred's knowledge of the Cascades and also his "laid-back" approach to climbing and his accomplishments.

yes i believe many of Freds accomplishments have been laid back, or back-to-back smirk.gif

he hasn't yet written a book on that though

i suspect it would be a bit like "Women" by Bukowski.

Yeah well, I wasn't referring to his "spooning adventures" with whoever. I guess you'd know more about that. tongue.gif

Yeah, the most impressive part of the show was how matter-of-fact and "no big deal" his whole discussion was. I guess for Fred, talking about first ascents in the Cascades is about like me talking about mowing my back yard, just something you do.

One bit of added trivia -- he talked about the railroad engineer Stevens who found Stevens pass. He later went on to be the chief engineer of the Panama Canal for several years.

"You've got to fuck a great many women

beautiful women

and write a few decent love poems.

and don't worry about age

and/or freshly-arrived talent.

just drink more beer

more and more beer"

You gotta love Bukowski. I just picked up "Love is a Dog from Hell" the other week. cheeburga_ron.gifbigdrink.gif and smileysex5.gif is the pursuit of happiness.

About ten years ago, Fred taught a Cascade history course at Green River CC. I was very impressed with his knowledge of the Cascades (and he seemed impressed with my girlfriend wazzup.gif).
