kyzer
Quick question looking for feedback about the crampon lace. Why is it frowned upon to cut the extra portion of the crampon lace? or is a good idea?
ScaredSilly
Unless they are really long I leave them as is mostly because after a bunch of use they start to fray. At that point I can cut that bit off and melt the end to make a stiff end. Also I use crampons for different boots and sometimes with thick gloves so longer straps is helpful so not to take one's gloves off. Hans Travis
I always wrap the strap around my boot twice and then the extra is just enough to tuck under the boot lace. I would imagine if it is much longer than that you could trim it and melt the edge so it doesn't fray. Still plenty long if you needed to put them on larger boots or anything. Atom
I trimmed mine so that I've got about 3'' of extra to accommodate different boots and I've had no issues with it being too short.
natedogg
Same, if its too long, cut it. Just hurts the resell value, but you can always buy a new strap anyways so who cares.
Bronco
I say save it in case you run out of webbing to rap off of.
mrice1225
I trimmed mine on an older pair and then tried them on my AT boots and they didn't fit so I had to get new laces. New pair I haven't trimmed so they'll be compatible with any boot. Would personally recommend not cutting.
