Chad Kellogg will be hosting a slideshow of his amazing speed climbs at the Seattle REI at 7pm on Friday (tomorrow). I don't know if - will show. Roger Strong will also present a slide show, but I'm not as familiar with his accomplishments (which only proves I know nothing). Check it out - Kellogg is the real thing, and has done amazing shit. Freaky genes or is he doing something I could learn from?

Anyone heading to Lillooet from Seattle Saturday afternoon?

I just called up to the Mile-O Motel to make reservations for the Ice Fest Weekend (Feb. 7-8th). The nice woman at the other end informed me that the Ice Fest has been cancelled this year. Kind of bummed because I was heading up with a crew of friends & was planning on setting some friends up with easier top-ropes. Now I'll have to think of something else to do with them. So I made the reservations anyway, but I spent the extra bucks for a jacuzzi room. Hope to see you punters up there!

I think there's also something about how the metal's behavior changes at cold temperatures. For example, a couple years ago BD was about to release a titanium-shafted ice axe, but killed the idea in the beta-testing stage becuase Ti becomes brittle in way-cold temperatures. Wow! That guy is stylin'! That must be AT LEAST 5.12c and he's cruisin' it in his tennies-- scha-weet! I better check out that gym and learn to climb like him.

Let's have some respect here. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to find a 190lb female who'll go to the surface with me? Sure, there are other squid in the oceans, but that doesn't ease the pain. Give me some time.

Hey kids, I'm heading up to the Enchantments tomorrow, and am thinking about doing the traverse, or seeing how far we can get heading east from Prussik. Are rap routes numerous along the ridge, or will we committed to climbing onward at certain points?

I was taught how to rap by a particularly cruel friend. From the very first, after she'd clipped into the rope, she'd look into my eyes and say meaningfully "See you in hell, bitch." Then she'd drop over the edge and leave my gumby self quivering and alone on the belay ledge. Now that I'm wizened and old, I still repeat that mantra to myself and my partners- it always seems to focus the mind and inspires everyone to check the system.

One time, I went on a five-week expedition with some guys I barely knew. After a couple of weeks, I realized I'd made a big mistake. It makes me wonder how many deaths on big expeditions are accidents, and how many are homicides.

The Tooth is my nemesis.
