  8. you need fuel to burn the fire - that is you need glucose to burn fat. You don't have big reserves, so you body will begin to metabolize protein to accomplish the same goal. The lower your blood glucose and glycogen stores dip, the more you burn protein, not fat. That is how you die of starvation while remaining a fatty. This relates to my point on timing of nutrients. You need to start with a high level of carbs and taper to more proteins to get the fat fires burning in the am, and insulin (which shunts glucose to the cells) is much more sensitive in the am than the pm (so the extra carbs turn into fat not mitochondria food). Also, when you are extremely hungry (which may be nothing close to starving for over-eatter) your body begins to conserve its fuel burning. Your metabolism lowers in a real or imagined effort to stay alive...and you burn less fat. So the "trick" is to intelligently time what and how much you eat while exercising to more effectively burn more fat. Jon's extreme workout is a good example of training to alter your metabolism to burn more fat and less blood sugar/glycogen reserves.
  9. there are flaws in the eat less and exercise, i.e. more calories out than in, method. I think (didn't really read it) what bob is saying is that more muscle = more mitochondria to burn fuel. You can die of starvation and still be fat as fuck. I think this advice "For burning fat running is best exercise. It is also good to drink lot of water in a day because water burns all calories and fat easily. With eating fruits and vegetables we can burn fat because these are best diet food." is what you could get if you wind up with an idiot for a trainer/nutritionist.
  10. there are a LOT of factors and I apologize I don't have time to comment more than but wanted to chime in on the whole fat burning range. You burn more percentage fat than when utilizing your aerobic metabolism the most but burn more total fuel when you spend more energy. So although you may burn the most fat at rest (theoreticaly) you are expending the least amount of calories. At high levels of exertion you are expending more calories, but burning a lower percentage of fat. How much fat you burn in total and what % fat you burn are the same thing. The trick is to train your body to utilze fat at higher outputs, nutrient timing, increased caloric expenditure, and reducing caloric intake. Focus on eating well, being fit, and being healthy in all forms of wellness gradually, instead of losing weight. ...or just turn the A/C on full blast in your t-shirt, take a lot of cold showers, eat carbs in the a.m. and not at dinner, don't go out for lunch, don't drink calories, keep a journal, and have one cheat day a week, exercise at least 30-60min every single day, and keep track of your daily weight but only compare by the month.
  11. No matter what you do, if you do it a million times, something will break. D and H shaped biners are just fine as are sewn draws. You don't see many high end sport climbers using open draws and ovals do you? Draws have a floppy end for the bolt which you could clip backwards and fuck up as easily as you could fuck anything up. Both of your arguments and solutions are conjecture, not cause and effect. This is how most bogus medical treatments become popular. Companies like Petzl wouldn't be in business if their quickdraws regularly broke. This is kinda like John's argument on Black Diamond's heel bail thead.
  12. we did the cloud tower route. didn't like it as much the 2nd time up, probably b/c i climbed like shit. Either way, I'm going to stick to routes that make redrocks special - trad faceclimbing. I'd keep the splitter for the creek.

  17. whisperlights are bomber, you'll be fine. if using that as the cookstove (water is already melted), you may actually use less fuel
