  1. Nifedipine is a prescription calcium channel blocker that I've had good results with. A big benefit is that you only need to take it when you expect to need it, so you're not stuck taking a daily pill. Nifedipine is a vasodilator, so it can cause dizziness, especially in people with normally low blood pressure. I find the slight dizziness very tolerable, but you'd obviously want to try it out first in a non-climbing setting. Nifedipine can also be used to treat HAPE, so isn't a bad thing to have in your kit.
  2. On Saturday 6/6 around noon or 1pm I carefully stashed a 50cm BD ice axe with a purple leash in a tree in the Liberty Bell gully, so I wouldn't have to carry over a big metal stick on the NW face. I had a lovely climb & got back down in time to get out of the gully and down most of the trail while it was still light. Unfortunately, when I got halfway down the gully to the tree where my axe had been, I found my climbing partner thrashing around in the brush looking for it. We searched high and low in the area it had been, got really intimate with the trees & brush just below where I had hung it, pulled out headlamps and shone them through branches, but it was nowhere to be found. If you rescued my axe, thinking it was lost or forgotten, or if you come across it in the gully in the coming weeks, please send me a message, leave it at the Mazama Store, or at the Goat's Beard (they know who to get it back to). It was a Christmas present this year, and I'm really looking forward to a season of using a properly sized axe instead of my husband's spares that I've been using for years.
